Westside Market

I love eating a breakfast crepe or pastry on the balcony at 7 or 8am on a weekday morning, when all the booths are just opening and there are barely any other customers. It’s also a great place to bring books…like Ender’s Game! =)

This is the closest thing to a traditional Taiwanese market I’ve seen in the states - everything in the prepared foods building is fresh and local. Even though it freaks me out a little bit, you can see pigs’ heads and every part of every animal in the pretty display cases. You can even bargain a bit in the produce building, but for some reason the produce is all shipped from places like Florida and California (why??) My favorite stands belong to the truffle man (spicy chocolate truffles), every cheese stand (ask for their sharpest cheddar!) and any stand with empanadas or savory pies. Mmmm, meat wrapped in doughy things…
