The Chess Players
You mostly see them on warm summer nights playing outside Dewey’s in Shaker Square, so I was surprised to catch them inside on a day like today. They are serious about their game - there’s no talk, the timer is on, and extra players wait patiently to rotate into the game. Well, sometimes there is talk: my favorite memory of the chess players is watching an older Indian man and a young Chinese kid trash talking with each other, until the kid had to rush home because his mom was making dinner (he really was in a hurry; he threw his violin case over his back, jumped on his bike and was gone in a few seconds)
These two gentlemen were nice enough to let me sit and draw them! I hope they both had some good games today.
